District Sports Office was established in 1976. Since then, the annual sports program has been playing an active role in creating national and international quality players by creating opportunities for developing sports talent at the grass root level across the country. At present, the sports office has taken up activities in the annual sports program to create employment opportunities for sportspersons, alleviate poverty, empower women, expand social security in the field of sports, play a role in prevention of drug abuse, health awareness, environmental awareness and increase the social status of sportspersons. This program is able to play a positive role directly and indirectly. Encouraging children, adolescents and young people in sports at the grassroots level of the country, creating awareness among the children of educational institutions, sports clubs and sports institutions and organizing training and competitions in various sports with the aim of developing sports mentality, identifying early sports talent, training to make young leaders in the field of sports and rural Sports office has been organizing annual sports programs every year by organizing sports festivals through sports events. Besides, through Bangabandhu Sports Welfare Foundation, financial grants are given to needy sportsmen and Bangabandhu sports education scholarships to talented athletes. Since 2018, Bangabandhu and Bangamata have been organizing the Under 17 Football Tournament.
